Where can I fly my Drone in Brisbane – New Park Locations for 2018

Parks available for drone flying

After mounting pressure due to the massive increase in commercial drone pilots the Brisbane City Council has decided opened up several parks across Brisbane to allow drone flying. The locations are being monitored and will be updated every six months.

At the moment to fly your drone, you need to make sure you meet the following conditions:

  • You are flying for recreational purposes; and
  • Your aircraft weighs no more than 2kg; and
  • Your aircraft is electric; and
  • Your aircraft has propeller guards (drones only); and
  • You are flying in a manner that does not endanger, interfere with or cause nuisance to the park users or adjoining properties; and
  • You follow civil aviation safety authority’s (CASA) safety rules for flying drones and other remotely piloted aircraft recreationally

Currently, all drone flying is regulated by CASA through the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations Part 101. Australia has quite strict drone laws and regulations, and this new initiative is aimed at making drone flying more accessible for drone pilots.

The following is the list of available parks, every park will have signage posted for the fly zones allocated for the parks. We've also included the outline overlaid on a satellite image of each park provided by the Brisbane city council.
