Garmin Forerunner – Australian Release

Forerunner 230, 235 and 630 Running watches announced!

Garmin have announced new models to their fitness range - the Forerunner 230, Forerunner 235, and Forerunner 630.

These models build on the tried and true products of the previous Garmin forerunner range, adding in connected features, activity tracking, and Connect IQ capability.

The brilliant colour screens show at a glance all the metrics you could want, and the Forerunner 235 even adds wrist-based heart rate, so you don't have to use a chest strap to get your heart rate data. The wrist based heart rate allows you to track your resting heart rate easily at any time of the day.

Features breakdown

All three new models of forerunner can connect wirelessly to your smartphone, to enable smart notifications and upload data to the Garmin Connect app. You can receive smart notifications right on your wrist showing calls, texts and email alerts, as well as showing music controls so you can easily add a soundtrack to your run. You can view current data on the Garmin Connect app, and it will not only sync steps, calories and workouts, but you can view sleep data - these forerunner models will automatically track your sleep and send data to Garmin Connect.

The Forerunner 235 (and Forerunner 230 and 630 when used with a heart rate monitor) can give a VO2 max estimate, predict race times, and shows a recovery timer, so you know how long to rest before attempting your next hard run.

Every running metric covered

The Forerunner 630 features Garmin’s most advanced running watch technology yet, with new physiological measurements including: Stride Length: Measures the length of a runner’s stride in real time, Ground Contact Time Balance: Measures a runner’s ground contact symmetry, which some runners have found to correlate with injuries or strength imbalances, Vertical Ratio: The cost-benefit ratio of vertical oscillation to stride length, serving as one indictor of a runner’s efficiency, Lactate Threshold: Estimates the level of effort at which fatigue rapidly increases in terms of a runner’s heart rate and pace, Stress Score: Measures heart rate variability to make an assessment of a user’s overall level of stress, and Performance Condition: Provides a real-time fitness-level measurement relative to a runner’s average baseline, which indicates performance readiness for the day’s workout or race.

The colour touchscreen on the Forerunner 630 makes it incredibly easy to use, and the host of features bring the next generation of running tech right to your wrist.

All models are expected to be released early November.
